South Aegean Hotels Greece

The South Aegean is a region encompassing a dozen or so major Greek Islands in the Mediterranean. The Periphery was founded in 1987 following the administrative reform that year. As to be expected from such a Mediterranean location, its good weather, beach resorts and historic attractions offer much for the tourist and there is plenty to do. Perhaps the most famous of the South Aegean tourist attractions is the Acropolis. Located in the town of Rhodes, the remains of this ruin were once important city buildings of temples, offices and sanctuaries.

On the island of Mykonos there is the Aegean Maritime Museum which is situated in an old, historic building and houses the traditional nautical heritage of the islands. The island of Patmos is home to the Cave of Apocalypse and sits on the path leading to the Monastery of St John and is easily recognizable by its mosaic above its entrance. The island of Delos lies at the heart of the Cyclades region and is established as an important religious sanctuary.

The island is also home to a number of ruins including the Avenue of the Lions. For such a tourist location, it is no surprise that there is an abundance of hotels, hostels and rentals available for visitors to the South Aegean. These range from budget friendly hostels to luxury tourist hotels which offer all the usual facilities.
