South Australia Hotels Australia

South Australia South Australia is fourth largest state in south central Australia. It shares borders with all the mainland states and the Northern Territories. On the east is Western Australia, Northern Territory to the north, Queensland to the northeast, New South Wales to the east and Victoria to the southeast. To the south the border are with the Great Australian Bight and the Indian Ocean. The majority of the population live in the state capital, Adelaide, with the rest scattered around the fertile areas along the south coast and the River Murray.

The terrain is mostly dry and semi-arid rangelands with a few low mountain ranges. The major range is the Mount Lofty-Flinders Ranges system extending north from Cape Jervis. The highest point is Mount Woodroffe (1435m) in the Musgrave Ranges in the northwest.

The southwestern part of the state comprises the thinly inhabited Nullarbar Plain ending at the cliffs of the Great Australian Bight. More than half of Australian wines are produced in the wine growing areas in the South Australian wine regions which include the Barossa Valley and Clare Valley and Adelaide Hills. Popular tourist regions in South Australia include Adelaide itself, the Adelaide Hills area, Barossa and Clare Valley, Kangaroo Island and the Flinders Ranges and the huge semi-desert of the Outback.

In addition, the state has over 3000km of wonderful coastline for visitors to discover.
