State of Assam Hotels India

Bounded by the Indian Ocean and neighbouring Pakistan and China is India, the second most populous country in the world. In South Asia the islands of Sri Lanka and the Maldives are close by. Assam, famous for its tea production, is in the north-eastern part of the country and is located to the south of the Eastern Himalayas. The Brahmaputra and Barak river valleys are located in Assam as is the Karbi Anglong and North Cachar hills. Assam is a great place to visit as a tourist and has a sub tropical climate, the annual monsoon and the Brahmaputra river means the vegetation is lush and much of the area is forested.

The Kaziranga National Park is a nature reserve but also a world heritage site as it hosts two thirds of the one horned rhinos population, in fact it is the intervention of the nature reserve that has helped save them from extinction. Here you can have guided tours of the park on elephant or by jeep, although hiking is not allowed to avoid any danger to the wildlife or to the humans. For a more spiritual place to visit there is Naharkatiya which is home to several Buddhist temples and ruins.

The major Buhu dance competition is also held here in the stadium and is a week long celebration for all the young people of the area. The oldest amphitheatre in Asia is Rang Ghar, in the district of Sibsagar. It used to be the royal pavilion where games such as buffalo fights took place.

For a more urban trip, you can visit the city of Guwahati, one of the largest cities in eastern India. Great for good quality hotels and restaurants the city has many things to do and see as well. The Pan Bazaar is part of the city on the bank of the Brahmaputra, with a shopping district there are many stores which stock traditional items from Assam culture.

Getting to Assam is easy, with the a major airport near to Guwahati and the area well connected by rail and road links you will find it easy to get around once you are there.
