They don’t have meters and are happy to exploit foreigners and locals alike! There are great beaches in Chennai too, right along to Mahabalipuram where you’ll discover many resorts, theme parks and restaurants. Try to take in Kovalam Beach too. It’s a small fishing village just forty kilometres from Chennai and is also a luxury beach resort! If Temples are your thing, take in the Dravidian architecture and some grand Hindu places of worship.

There’s the Thiruvalluvar memorial statue and the extraordinary Vivekananda Rock Memorial. Fit in the Ghandi Museum in Madurai as well as the Sri Meenakshi Temple nearby. You’ll see 7th and 8th century monuments at Mahabalipuram, which has been made a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Tamil people enjoy folk dancing and one dance that is traditional, yet celebrated, is the Bharatanatyam, originating from a Hindu Sage. There’s a wonderful sunrise to be enjoyed – if you can get up in time to see it, in Kanyakumari. Explore the Nature Sanctuaries including two Tiger Reserves that also house elephants, crocs and bird areas and the Botannical Gardens at Ooty.

Food in the State of Tamil Nadu is served on a banana leaf and not a plate and eaten with the right hand. The main staple food of the Tamil people is Rice, mixed with a Sambhar. There are many good hotels in the State of Tamil Nadu.
