The Marches Hotels Italy

The Marches The Marches(Marche) is one of Italy’s 20 regions, in the central area of the country next to the Adriatic Coast. The Marche shares borders with Emilia-Romagna and the small republic of San Marino to the north, on the north west is Tuscany, Umbria is on the west and Abruzzo and Lazio are to the south. The Adriatic Sea coast is to the east. Ancona is the regional capital. Most of the region is mountainous or hilly, with the relatively narrow coastal plain rising sharply to the peaks of the Apennine chain, that form the natural boundary with Umbria and Tuscany in the west.

The inland mountains are mostly limestone and has bare peaks, rushing torrents and dramatic landscapes that are formed with the action of water on soluble stone, such as gorges and cave complexes. As a contrast the areas near the coastal plain have fertile rounded hills with ancient fortified towns on the top. There is much to see and appreciate in The Marche.

For historical interest the tour of the abbeys and cathedrals are a must, the most famous along the Chienti Valley, also must-see are the castles, including the Castle of Caldarola, Gradara, the castle-city, the Palace of Urbino and more. There are interesting archeological sites in Offida and Fanao, and the Caves of Genga are worth seeing. Beach lovers will enjoy San Bernedetto del Tronto the “City of Palms”, and for adventurous golf lovers the golf course at Sirolo at the base of Monte Conero.
