Tochigi-ken is located on the island of Honshu which is the largest of the Japanese islands. The Tochigi-ken prefecture is situated within the Kanto region which lies along the eastern side of the island. The capital here is Utsunomiya, which is itself famous for its large shopping mall the Bell Mall and the numerous gyoza, or Chinese dumpling, shops. The general landscape here consists of the main prefectures such as Tochigi-ken while the rest is made up of mountains and hilly ranges. Within the area there is there is the city of Nikko which has the Nikko National Park and within this there is the Shinto Shrines, Mount Nattai and the Kegon Falls.

Other attractions in this region include the Nasu Resort, Kinugawa Hot Springs, Mashiko and Lake Chuzenji. While some of the other main cities include Sano, Moka, Sakura and Oyama. Accommodation in Utsunomiya includes the Toyoko Inn Tobu, the Hotel The Centre Utsunomiya, Castle City Centre and Hotel Maruji all of which have a range of rooms from very reasonable (below £50/night) to ones above the £100 mark.

Nikko has hotels and B&B’s and the price of the hotels is considerable more than in the capital, however cheaper accommodation can be found in one of the B&B’s or Inns.
