Tyrol Hotels Austria

Tyrol Tyrol, is a state in Austria, located in the west, and consists of the Austrian portion of the historical region of the Tyrol. It is split into two regions, North Tyrol, the largest part made up of 7 districts and the city of Innsbruck and East Tyrol which only has the district of Lienz. North and East Tyrol are separated by a 20km strip of land shared between the Austrian state of Salzburg and the Italian Province of Bolzano. North Tyrol has borders with the German state of Bavaria in the north, the small Austrian state of Vorarlberg in the west, Italy and Switzerland in the south and Salzburg in the east. East Tyrol also borders Carinthia in the east.

Tyrol is known for its mountains – the highest mountain is the Grossglockner (3798m), the highest in Austria. The group of mountains around the Grossglockner and the Grossvenediger are part of the Hohe Tauern, the largest national park in Austria which spreads over three states. The Tyrol is famous for its world-class ski resorts, including Ktizbuhel, Ischgl and St Anton and many resorts have all-year skiing.

The capital of the Tyrol is Innsbruck, and its most popular tourist destination, and a good centre for visiting the entire Tyrol region. Five of the main ski areas are accessible from Innsbruck, connected by bus, and the Stubai Galcier, 40 kms from Innsbruck has year-round skiing.
