The Andaman and Nicobar islands is a group of islands on the Bay of Bengal, situated about 150 kilometers to the north of Indonesia’s most eastern island of Sumatra. A must-see destination is the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. Also known as Wandoor Marine National Park, it is located in South Andaman, 29 kilometers away from Port Blair. Fifteen islands make up for this national park, and occupying an area of 281.

5 squares kilometers, it allows visitors to snorkel, scuba dive, as well as witnessing amazing coral reefs and aquatic life. There is an entrance fee to the park, and it is open all year apart during the rainy months of October to February. 36 kilometers boat-ride away towards northeast from Port Blair, lies Neil Island.

It is the typical view one would expect from an unspoiled island with a couple of beautiful sandy beaches with lush green surroundings. Further north of Neil Island is Havelock Island. It is the most visited destination in the Andaman.

It has a handful of incredibly beautiful beaches and sees the best weather between the middle of January to mid-May. On Middle Andaman, lies Karamatang Beach. Here one can witness turtle nesting between December to February.

Continuing the journey towards the north, there is Mayabunder, a small village worth visiting for its unique culture of the inhabitants. Turtle nesting also takes place on Ram Nayar beach in North Andaman. There are also the breathtaking Ross and Smith islands.

These are twin islands connected by a picturesque sand bar. It is very calm and peaceful on these islands and during the holiday seasons, camping are permitted by the authority. FestivalsJanamashtami is the most celebrated festival in the Andaman.

It celebrates the birth of Lord Khrisna. The festival is filled with devotion songs, lights and flowers decorations, and ends with the sharing of an entirely vegetarian feast amongst the devotees. During December and January, the authority organizes the Island Tourism Festival.

It lasts for 10 days and gives the visitors an opportunity to catch a glimpse into the aspects of life, culture and religion of the island, with the aim to promote tourism of the Andaman and Nicobar. Traveling tips:- The currency is rupees (£. 1 = 71.
