Veneto Hotels Italy

Veneto Veneto is one of the 20 regions of Italy and is the eighth largest at some 18. 4K sq km. It is situated in the north eastern part of Italy, bordered to the east by Friuli Venezia Giula, and to the south by Emilia Romagna, Lombardy to the west and Trentino-Alto to the north. Right at the northern corner is Austria. Veneto can be divided into four areas : the northern Alpine region, the hill region, the lower plain and the coastal/lagoon territory.

Around a third of the land area in mountain, the Carnic alps and eastern Dolomites and Venetian Prealps – a noted feature of the latter are the cave formations and deep caverns. The Po Valley covers around 57% of Veneto and comprises a plain extending from the mountains to the Adriatic Sea. Several rivers flow through the region including the Po, Adige, Brenta and Tagliamento.

The eastern shore of the largest lake in Italy, Lake Garda is in Veneto. The coastline covers around 200km of which around 100km are beaches. The coasts of the Adriatic are represented by the Venetian Lagoon, a flat terrain with ponds, marshes and islands.

The Po Delta to the south has sandbars and dunes along the coastline. The inland part contains land that is cultivated recently reclaimed by systems of canals and dykes, which have also created fish ponds. The regional capital is Venice and other important cities are Verona, Padua, Vicenza, Treviso, Rovigo and Belluno.

Though many tourists speed through Veneto on route to the most famous city Venice, the region of Veneto has much more to offer.
