Virginia Hotels United States

Virginia The Commonwealth of Virginia is a southern state of the United States of America located on the Atlantic Coast, with a population of almost 8 million and a land area of around 103K sq km. To the north and east of Virginia are the states of Maryland and Washington D. , to the east are the shore of the Atlantic Ocean, and North Carolina and Tennessee are to the south, whilst on the west is Kentucky, and West Virginia to the north and west. Virginia has five geographical regions.

The Tidewater is a coastal plain next to the Atlantic Coast including the eastern shore and estuaries that enter Chesapeake Bay. The second area is the Piedmont- a series of foothills east of the Southwest Mountains. The third region is that of the Blue Ridge Mountains – a chain of the Appalachian Mountains (tallest peak Mount Rogers 1746m), whilst the fourth region, the Ridge and Valley region west of the mountains includes the great Appalachian Valley, and the fifth is the Cumberland Plateau region.

Because of the large areas of carbonate rock, there are more than 4000 caves in Virginia – ten open for tourists. Exploring Virginia’s past is a favourite occupation for tourists – because Virginia’s past is tied up with the history of the United States itself, from the first English settlement of Jamestown in 1607 to the Revolutionary War and the Civil War fought on Virginia’s famous battlefields, now preserved by the National and Virginia State Parks Services. Visitors can experience the USA’s largest living history museum at Colonial Williamsburg.

Virginia also has two major theme parks – Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Kings Dominion as well as water parks and zoos. There is a great deal for the outdoor and sports enthusiast including ski resorts with snowboarding and snowtubing slopes. This is not to mention the excellent beaches and the year-round adventures possible on the Blue Ridge Mountains.
