West Greece Hotels Greece

Greece is mostly coastal land and is surrounded by Mediterranean, Aegean and Ionian Seas. Warm summers for much of the year and temperatures are around 37 degrees Celsius. Many holidays celebrate the beauty of the beaches for bathing, playing and water activities. activity and site seeing holidays in places such as; Faliraki, Kardamena, Laganas, Malia, Paleokastritsa and Sidari, Crete, Santorini, Rhodes or Mykonos Island are popular. The West Greece Periphery was established in the 1987 administrative reform.

Facing the Ionian Sea it is divided into three regions; pre-Kallikratis, Aetolia-Acarnania in Central Greece and Elis in the Peloponnese Peninsula which is over the golf of Corinth. There are another 19 divisions of the three areas. Main Cities of this periphery are; Mesolóngi; the capital of Aetolia-Acarnania is between the rivers, Acheloos and Evinos and a port on the gulf of Patras.

Agrínio; the largest city in Aetolia-Acarnania and is famous for the production of tobacco; Aígio, now part of Aigialeia since 2011 and sits on the Golf of Corinth providing many scenic views of the blue waters. Amaliáda, the second largest town in Llda and was formerly part of Elis before 2011; Pátra, the very metropolitan and regional capital of West Greece, sits on Mount Panachaikon and overlooks the Gulf of Patras. And Pýrgos, the capital of Elis and in the western part of Peloponnese.

The land in this side of Greece is characterised by high mountains, deep valleys, gorges, caves, fertile fields and stunning beaches. Although still hot, it is mild than the rest of Greece.
