West Virginia Hotels United States
West Virginia can be found in the Appalachia and south-eastern region of the United States. It is bordered by Virginia in the southeast, Kentucky to its southwest, Ohio makes up the north-western border while Pennsylvania is to the northeast and Maryland in the east completes the circuit. Charleston is the capital of this state and the largest city as well. This state is located in the Appalachian Mountain range and because it is entirely based within the mountains it is known by many as the Mountain State. The climate here is varied due to the mountains, in the lower lying areas in the south-western region of the state it has a humid subtropical climate which has warm to hot sticky summers with mild winters.
While the rest of the state has a humid continental climate, the summers are still warm and sticky but not intense as those in the south west and the winters tend to be cool to cold. In the south some of the higher elevations have a mountain or alpine climate which has mild summers and cool winters. Attractions in Charleston include the State Museum, Avampato Discovery Museum which is a science based centre, there is the lovely Kanawha State Forest which is just south of the capital and has playgrounds, swimming pool and many hiking trails to explore.
There is also the West Virginia Veterans Memorial and the Heritage Towers. The next largest city is Huntington and the places to visit here include the charming Heritage Farm Museum and Village, Huntington Museum of Art, the Beech Fork Lake which is great for walks and camping and Camden Park which is a theme park. For a taste of the legendary Pocahontas, make sure you stop off in Marlinton as they have the Pocahontas County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Pocahontas County Historical Society Museum.
Hotels in Charleston include the one star Knights Inn, the two star Sleep Inn and the Holiday Inn Express. Three star hotels include the Embassy Suites Hotel Charleston and the Marriott Charleston Town Centre. In Huntington there is the two star Red Roof Inn and the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Huntington.
While at three stars there is the Holiday Inn Huntington.
