Western Australia Hotels Australia

Western Australia Western Australia is the largest state in Australia encompassing the whole western third of the continent of Australia. To the north and west is the Indian Ocean, the Great Australian Bight and Indian Ocean are to the south. Inland, the Northern Territory is to the east and South Australia is to the south east. The capital of the state is Perth. Most of Western Australia consists of ancient rocks, comprehensively eroded, with the highest point at 1245m at Mount Meharry in the Pilbara region.

Most of the state consists of a low plateau elevated to around 400m, that descends quite sharply to the coastal plains. Given the age of the underlying rock the soils are pretty infertile and lacking many essential nutrients, therefore requiring heavy dressing with chemical fertilisers, herbicides and insecticides. Together with large-scale land clearing needed for agriculture the ecological infrastructure of the South West Region has been damaged and threatened its biodiversity.

However, the state is in the top nine terrestial habitats for biodiversity with a high proportion of endemic species. It is also in the top six regions for marine biodiversity with the most southerly coral reefs in the world. Given the vast size of the state, there is a wide range of places and activities for the visitor.

Perth is the main tourist gateway of Western Australia, and Perth Beach areas are famous for their white sand and clear waters. The beach areas extend along the Indian Ocean coast. Perth’s Swan River is a broad waterway connecting Perth with Fremantle, and the Swan Valley area is famous for its wineries.

Rottnest Island is a holiday island getaway a short ferry ride from Perth of Freemantle. In the far north Broome is the gateway to the vast Kimberley and a range of outdoor tourist attractions. Margaret River surf beaches are very popular as are the vineyards amongst other in the region.

In the south there are the coral reefs and much more ! These are just a taste of the attractions of the region.
